(loss of near vision). This new breakthrough in vision surgery
is a unique way to reduce your dependency on glasses or contact
lenses. These Refractive intra-ocular lenses (IOL) has been
designed to improve vision at all distances-up close (near),
in- between (computer and dashboard) and far away (driving).
HOW DO YOU KNOW IF YOU ARE A CANDIDATE FOR
ONE OF THE NEW STATE-OF-THE-ART REFRACTIVE LENSES?
If you are over 40 years old, and having difficulty with
your up close vision or if you were diagnosed with Cataracts
then you may be a candidate for a Refractive Intraocular lens.(IOL).
Intra-ocular lenses have been used to correct vision since
1949. Many advances have been made since then. Today, we are
able to provide you with a full range of vision without dependence
on glasses for distance, intermediate or up close vision.
Please call our office at 772-337-5332 or 1-866-654-2020 to

you with a full Ophthalmological eye examination, go over
the risks and benefits of cataract
surgery, and together we will see which Refractive Intraocular
Lens is the right choice for you.
Refractive Intraocular Lens Facts: ReSTOR,
Crystalens , ReZOOM
Refractive Lens Implant surgery is performed in a similar
manner to cataract
surgery. It is performed in an outpatient surgery center.
With ReSTOR, ReZoom & Crystalens
Implants, your surgeon will numb the eye with eye drops. The
natural lens is removed through a tiny 2.8 mm incision then
replaced with a high technology intraocular lens.
Once your natural lens has been removed, it can now be replaced
by a new permanent Refractive Intraocular Lens Implant. The
new lens is readily inserted and placed in position through
the same tiny incision at the outer edge of the cornea through
which the natural lens was removed. In order to help you achieve your
goal of being able to see at far, intermediate arms length
and up close for reading vision, your surgeon will select
from advanced state-of-the-art intraocular lens technology
available today which includes ReSTOR, ReZoom and Crystalens.
Each of these advanced technology implantable lenses uses
a slightly different optical design to help you achieve your
goal of clear vision at all distances. Your surgeon and his
or her staff will discuss their recommendation based on many
factors in your consultation.
ACRYSOF RESTOR MULTIFOCAL INTRAOCULAR LENS
AcrySof ReSTOR is a breakthrough lens that uses apodized
diffractive technology to give patients a full range of vision-
near through distance- and greatly reduces their reliance
on reading glasses or bifocals. The AcrySof ReSTOR intraocular
lens (IOL) is an artificial lens used in cataract
surgery for patients with and without presbyopia.
The unique patented optic design results in highly-predictable
visual acuity results, meaning patients can read the font
on items such as prescription bottles, magazines, newspapers
and computer screens, while also providing the ability to
see items at a distance independent of reading glasses or
bifocals. In fact, clinical trials have demonstrated that
four out of five patients never needed to wear glasses or
bifocals following bilateral cataract
surgery.
Clinical data demonstrates that AcrySof ReSTOR IOL greatly
reduces dependence on glasses or bifocals. 80 percent of patients
in the FDA clinical study did not need to wear glasses with
AcrySof ReSTOR IOL, compared to eight percent in the monofocal
control group following bilateral cataract
surgery. Combined Visual Acuity: 84.3 percent of patients
demonstrated combined uncorrected vision without glasses of
20/25 or better for distance and 20/32 or better for near.
85 percent of AcrySof ReSTOR patients achieved 20/40 or better
binocular uncorrected intermediate vision. In most states,
20/40 vision allows individuals to pass the visual requirements
for the driver's license test without glasses or contact lenses.
The AcrySof ReSTOR IOL is made of the same highly-biocompatible
acrylic material as Alcon's market-leading AcrySof family
of intraocular lenses, which have been implanted in more than
21 million human eyes since 1991.
AcrySof ReSTOR IOL uses a combination of three complementary
technologies: apodization, diffraction and refraction. Its
unique apodized diffractive optic design provides the ability
to focus light correctly on the retina for images at various
distances without mechanical movement of the lens.
Apodization is a gradual reduction or blending of the diffractive
step heights. This unique technology optimally manages light
energy delivered to the retina because it distributes the
appropriate amount of light to near and distant focal points,
regardless of the lighting situation.
Apodized diffractive optics are designed to improve image
quality while minimizing visual disturbances. The result is
an increased range of quality vision that delivers a high
level of spectacle freedom.
CRYSTALENS ACCOMMODATING INTRAOCULAR LENS
The first and only FDA approved accommodating intraocular
lens
The only lens that uses the natural focusing ability of the
eye
The only lens that provides a single focal point throughout
a continuous range of vision from far to near. Crystalens
, is a single-focus accommodating intraocular lens. It was
developed to address the loss of intermediate and near focusing
ability. Crystalens
is a cataract
replacement lens that works naturally with your eyes' muscles
to give you the quality of vision you enjoyed when you were
younger.
The revolutionary design element that makes Crystalens
the state-of-the-art replacement lens is ITS DESIGN THAT ALLOWS
the lens to move, or accommodate to focus on objects near,
INTERMEDIATE AND FAR AWAY seamlessly.
Unlike old-style fixed focal lenses, which didn't move, Crystalens
has the ability to move, thus focusing as your eye's natural
lens did when you were younger. Your surgeon will take precise
measurements CALLED TOPOGRAPHY, KERATOMETRY AND IMMERSION
BIOMETRY to insure the correct lens power selection for your
eye.
Upon having your cataract
removed, it is now possible for your surgeon to replace the
lens with Crystalens
in order to help you regain the ability to see not only
at distance, but also see intermediate and near objects-without
dependence on glasses. After your surgery and the placement
of Crystalens
, you will "relearn" how to focus your vision with
your doctor's help and instruction. After a brief time of
adaptation, it is expected that you will be able to perform
most tasks-far, intermediate and near-without dependence on
glasses.
Q: What makes the Crystalens
different from other intraocular lenses?
A: The Crystalens
has the unique ability to focus on objects at varying distances
using the eye's natural focusing system. This means that the
Crystalens
can provide a continuous range of vision, without corrective
lenses, from near to far and everything in between.
Standard (single vision) lens implants do not have the ability
to provide a full range of vision. Most people who have single
vision lens implants MUST wear glasses for middle and near
vision. It was shown in the two year clinical trial that supported
the FDA approval of the Crystalens
that significantly more patients implanted with a Crystalens
(88%) could see better at all distances than patients
implanted with a standard lens (36%).
Q. What is the difference between the Crystalens
accommodating lens and a standard lens?
A. The Crystalens
accommodating intraocular lens allows for continuous
vision up close, far away and at all distances in between,
in most cases with patients experiencing the same vision they
had when the were younger, without the inconvenience of corrective
lenses. In contrast, standard (single vision) lens implants
provide vision at a fixed distance and do not have the ability
to provide a full range of near, intermediate and far vision.
Most people with single vision implants must wear glasses
for near vision and may need to wear glasses for intermediate/arm's
length vision as well.
ReZoom Multifocal Intraocular Lens
The ReZoom Multifocal Intraocular Lens is an option for the
treatment
of both cataracts
and presbyopia.
It is designed to provide patients multifunctional vision
if they have a strong desire for greater independence from
glasses or contacts. The ReZoom Multifocal Lens has a patented
lens design called Balanced View Optics Technology. This lens
design creates multiple focal points so patients can see well
at a variety of distances, be it near, mid-distance, or far.
ReZoom intraocular lens is a second-generation refractive
multifocal IOL that provides hyperopic OR FAR SIGHTED cataract
patients with greater independence from glasses than monofocal
IOLs. The ReZoom proprietary multifocal design provides a
range of vision that monfocals cannot match.
The ReZoom Balanced View Optics technology distributes light
over five optic zones so that each lens has a distance-dominant
central zone for distance vision in bright light conditions
when the pupil is constricted. The ReZoom IOL is indicated
for the visual correction of aphakia in persons 60 years of
age or older in whom a cataractous lens has been removed and
who may benefit from useful near vision without reading add
and increased spectacle independence across a range of distances.
It is intended to be placed in the capsular bag.
The ReZoom Multifocal Lens has carefully proportioned visual
zones that provide it with the ability to provide patients
with vision at varying distances. Each ReZoom Multifocal Lens
is divided into five different zones with each zone designed
for different light and focal distances. Unlike other earlier
multifocal lens designs, the ReZoom Multifocal Lens has proportioned
the size of its zones to provide for good vision in a range
of light conditions. For instance, some zones have been designed
to offer greater low light-distance vision during night driving
whereas others provide better bright light-near vision for
close vision activities.
